In a statement on Thursday night, the BNP chairperson demanded immediate arrest of Farooqi’s killers.

Farooqi was murdered in the presence of his family at his East Razabazar residence on Wednesday night.

He was a presidium member of Islamic Front, a leader of Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat and also the Khatib of High Court Mazar mosque. Besides, he hosted two programmes – ‘Shantir Pothe’ and ‘Kafela’ – on Channel i.

A group of miscreants raided a house at Dhaka’s Moghbazar on Thursday night and shot three people dead, hours after Khaleda’s statement issued over Wednesday’s murder.

She said, “The murder of Nurul Islam Farooqi proves that the reign of terror has been unleashed on the country and people are not safe anymore under this illegal government’s rule.”

Terming Farooqi’s murder ‘brutal’, Khaleda blamed the government for the ‘deterioration of law and order’ in the country.

She alleged the government was patronising terror godfathers and miscreants to create panic among people, so that they could remain in power, which they ‘grabbed illegally’.

Not only political leaders and activists, now respected citizens were also becoming casualties to the misrule of this illegal government, she said.
