His statement came at an Iftar organised at a hotel in the capital on Tuesday.
The chairman urged leaders and activists of the party, the main opposition in Parliament, to actively strengthen the party.
He said, “The BNP has announced agitations after Eid. But it is riven by internal conflicts. The party is in shambles due to conflicts over leadership. For us this is a blessing from Allah.”
Ershad told his party supporters that the Jatiya Party had to finally take the helm of nationalist politics.
“Now golden opportunities have come to us. We have to take them.”
Ershad said his party’s target was to secure victory in 151 seats in the next parliamentary election.
Leader of the Opposition Roushan Ershad was also present at the Iftar.
Ershad was hospitalised for illness two days back but he looked quite normal at the function.
