“There is no point threatening the Awami League of a movement. Awami League is the headmaster of movements,” he told a discussion in Dhaka on Monday.

Suranjit retorted after the BNP gave a call for renewed agitation after Eid for a fresh parliamentary election.

He said the administration would not sit idle if the BNP tried to bring down a democratic government. “They would be forced to take tough decisions.”

BNP, which boycotted the Jan 5 parliamentary polls held under the previous Awami League government, has been demanding a fresh poll under a non-party caretaker administration.
BNP chief Khaleda Zia announced that they would intensify their movement after Eid to compel the government to meet their demand.
The senior AL leader asked the BNP to shun the Jamaat-e-Islami and militancy and return to democratic politics.
Suranjit referred to an exchange of words over an article by Jatiya Party chief HM Ershad in a newspaper.
Ershad, former military strongman, in an open letter to the prime minister, published in a newspaper on Saturday, said that BNP founder and late president Ziaur Rahman, “assumed power through bloodsheds”.
The BNP asked Ershad to seek forgiveness for his remark.
Suranjit said the BNP, now flaying Ershad, was ready to court him when it came to elections.
