Awami League’s (AL) Dhaka metropolitan chapter has brought out a procession in Dhaka marking the first day of Bengali New Year.

The procession started around 8:30am on Monday from old Dhaka’s Bahadur Shah Park and marched through different points of the city before ending up in front of the party’s Bangabandhu Avenue headquarters.
AL’s associated organisations also joined the colourful procession led by the party’s Dhaka metropolitan unit’s General Secretary and Disaster Management Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya.
At a brief rally before the procession, Maya blasted BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia for distorting history.
“She should not be allowed to live in Bangladesh let alone go ahead with the politics for destruction and distorting history,” the AL leader said.
AL’s Dhaka Metropolitan unit Joint General Secretary and Food Minister Kamrul Islam said people can celebrate national festivals only when the Awami League is in power.
