Rony surrenders, gets bail

Awami League MP Golam Maula Rony has got bail in an-attempt-to-murder case after he surrendered in court.

The case was filed by the Independent TV management after Rony and his aides assaulted two of their TV journalists on Saturday.

The MP for Patuakhali-3 constituency surrendered to Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s court on Sunday noon and pleaded for bail, which was granted.

Rony’s lawyer Kabir Hossain claimed the case details did not mention attempt for murder. "The court granted bail since the charges are suitable for bail.”

Independent TV journalists Imtiaz Momin Sony and cameraman Mohsin Mukul came under attack at Rony’s Meherba Plaza office on Topkhana Road where they had gone to interview the MP for their investigative programme ‘Talash.

The journalists said the MP lost his temper at one point of the interview and began to assault them.

Their camera and boom microphone were smashed and the camera’s memory card was snatched.

Journalist union leaders rushed to the rescue of the attacked journalists.
The lawmaker apologised, promising to compensate for the damaged equipment and bear medical expenses for the injured mediapersons.
