Barely 24 hours after the BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia issued the ultimatum from a rally, the ruling party’s General Secretary Syed Ashraful Islam responded to the call at a press conference at its Dhanmondhi office on Sunday.

“The Awami League has never accepted any ultimatum in the past nor will it now,” he said and adding: “I reject her ultimatum outright on behalf of Bangladesh Awami League.”

The ruling party’s spokesperson again asked the BNP chief to to sit for dialogue. “The Prime Minister has proposed talks. Please come for talks since every problem can be solved through dialogue.”

He said they had never bowed to threats, nor were they willing to do that now.

“The BNP had staged a one-party election in 1996. The Awami League never staged such election, nor would it in future,” Ashraf added.
