Jamaat MP charged for Editor attack

At least 25 people, including an MP of Jamaat-e-Islami, were accused on Sunday of attacking the Editor of a local daily in Chittagong.

The Senior Staff Reporter of the Daily Sangu, Shubhrasish Dasgupta Rony, filed the case with Satkaniya police at night.

Satkaniya Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Ismail confirmed the case was filed.

The accused includes Chittagong City chief of Jamaat and MP ANM Shamsul Islam and former MP Shahjahan Chowdhury.

Nine others were named in the case but the others were unnamed.

The case alleged Jamaat and its student Islami Chhatra Shibir activists launched an attack on Sangu Editor Kabir Ahmad Siddiqui at Bajaliya Bazar on Chittagong-Bandarban road at 7am.

The attack was made for publishing news against Jamaat and Shibir, said the complaint.

Kabir is currently being treated at a local private hospital.
