Dhaka, Jan 28 (bdnews24.com) -- A second well-known political leader, Giasuddin Quader Chowdhury of BNP, was not allowed to leave the country Sunday, immigration police said.
Chowdhury arrived at Zia International Airport at around 10pm to board a Singapore-bound plane but was told by police he would not be permitted to leave.
Immigration police told bdnews24.com that they acted on the basis of a list provided by intelligence agencies.
The Airport Police Station said they knew about the incident but no other details.
Earlier in the day, the immigration police stopped Sohel Taj, a former Awami League MP, as he was about to take a flight to New Delhi to attend a conference sponsored by the ruling Congress party in India.
The son of former prime minister Tajuddin Ahmed was to lead a two-person team to a conference titled "Peace, Non-violence, Empowerment: Gandhi and Philosophy in the 21st Century" organised by the All India Congress Committee.
The party's women affairs secretary Dr Dipu Moni was the other member of the team, who was allowed to fly out of Zia International Airport.
