Eight killed in floods in India's Mizoram state

At least eight people have been killed in India's northeastern state of Mizoram.

The hill state borders Bangladesh's Chittagong Hill Tracts which has been ravaged by landslides and heavy rain, killing 125 people so far.

The deaths were reported from Tlabung in Mizoram's Lunglei district. Large parts of the district were hit by flash floods that swept away nearly 400 houses in three villages.

More than twenty people were reported missing.

The national highway 54 connecting Mizoram to rest of India through Assam was cut off in several places by huge landslides.

Parts of Assam were also flooded by incessant rains during last 24 hours.

The capital Guwahati also suffered extensive submergence due to water logging.

Train services were also affected adversely in the region bordering Bangladesh.
