The May 25 flood killed 100 people and caused severe damage to livelihood and properties of thousand others.

The foreign ministry said Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, both members of SAARC and BIMSTEC, are enjoying “friendly” bilateral relations.

“The two countries have commonalities in values and culture, and share similar developmental aspirations,” it added.

Sirisena earlier visited Bangladesh as health minister.

His predecessor Mahinda Rajapaksa came to Bangladesh in April 2011.
