Mohammad Umer Nasser was arrested on Monday night in the bordering district of Cachar in southern Assam.

The police also arrested a local youth, Makbul Alam Majumdar for allegedly providing shelter to the Bangladeshi.

Cachar district Superintendent of Police Rakesh Roshan said that the arrested Bangladeshi youth is being questioned by the police.

Although the police are yet to find any information linking him to JMB, but preliminary interrogation indicate that he had fled Bangladesh to evade arrest for murder.

Some Assam police officials said he is perhaps the son of a ruling Awami League leader wanted for murder back home.

SP Roshan said the Bangladeshi youth did not have any valid travel documents and the police will start legal proceedings against him.

Nasser has said his father's name is Kudrat Ullah and he is a resident of Noakhali district in Bangladesh.

He claims he had completed a diploma course in computer engineering from Noakhali Ideal Polytechnic Institute.

Nasser says he entered India through the Tripura border after he was named in a murder case few months earlier during the elections in his country.

He worked as a labourer for a while in Bishalgarh under a contractor where he met Makbul Alam Majumdar and came to Cachar to live with him.
