Security was beefed up after the threats and intense checks were carried out, airport security officials told bdnews24.com.

Some flights were marginally delayed but no public announcement of the threats was made, as that could cause a panic, the officials said.

Following anonymous calls, warnings of attacks were received, police said.

But passengers were alerted when bomb disposal and dog squads were drafted into service to check for possible explosives.

Such threat calls to blow up the Kolkata airport were received in March this year.
