Protest in Agartala against attack on minorities in Bangladesh

People from various religions joined a protest rally in Agartala, capital of India's northeastern state of Tripura, against ongoing attacks on religious minorities by Muslim fundamentalists in Bangladesh.

Hundreds of people under the banner of ‘Dharma Jagaran Samiti, Tripura’ took to the streets here Tuesday.

Slogans were raised condemning attacks and atrocities on religious minorities and their priests in Bangladesh -- especially Hindus, Buddhists, Christians.

The protest procession started from in front of the Rabindra centenary hall and went through the streets of the capital city and ended in front of the office of the Assistant High Commissioner of Bangladesh. 

The protesters submitted a memorandum with the Assistant High Commissioner of Bangladesh here. 

It was addressed to Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and signed by many religious leaders and priests of various temples.

In the written memorandum they condemned the atrocities against the Hindu and other religious minorities in Bangladesh and requested the Bangladesh government to take prompt and stringent action in order to uphold the rule of law to ensure safety and security of the religious minorities.

The protesters also requested all liberal and progressive voice of Bangladesh to stand united against the unprovoked radical Islamic aggression, irrespective of their religion, cast and creeds as atrocity of any religion is attack on humanity.
