On Wednesday, the Punjab assembly adopted a resolution to honour Nizami with Pakistan’s highest civilian honour, ‘Nishan-e-Pakistan’, reports Dunya News.

The resolution was tabled by Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) Member Provincial Assembly (MPA) Allauddin Shaikh. It was adopted unanimously.

In his resolution, the PML-N leader demanded that Nizami should be honoured for supporting a united Pakistan and rewarded for his 'love for the country.'

Bangladesh carried out the execution of Jamaat-e-Islami chief Nizami for masterminding rapes, mass murders, and massacre of intellectuals to prevent Bangladesh’s emergence as an independent nation.

Nizami was hanged at Dhaka Central Jail a little after midnight on May 11.

After the execution, a resolution of condemnation was moved in the Punjab assembly by its Leader of the Opposition Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Mehmoodur Rasheed.

The Pakistan Parliament also adopted a resolution condemning Nizami’s execution. In a statement, Islamabad’s foreign ministry said that Nizami‘s ‘only sin’ was to ‘uphold the Constitution of Pakistan.’

Dhaka strongly protested the statement and said that it does not expect Islamabad to ‘interfere in internal matters’.
