TRTC official LJ Rokhum had to go into hiding after goons allegedly working for 'Shyamoli Paribahan' of Bangladesh snatched the road permit from him.

"Rokhum was threatened by the goons who told him TRTC should not run its buses on the Agartala-Kolkata route," said Tripura Transport Secretary Samarjit Bhowmik.

He said he had spoken to diplomats at the Indian High Commission in Dhaka after Rokhum complained of the snatching and the threats.

"They promised to take up the issue, but Rokhum was so shaken he went into hiding and switched off his mobile phone. We now hear he has received a fresh copy of the road permit for our bus," Bhowmik said.

He said Rokhum has been asked to return to Agartala soonest adding the state's Transport Minister Manik Dey has been informed about the incident.

"We have also asked the Indian High Commission to ensure security for our bus," he said.

As per the India-Bangladesh agreement, two Bangladesh police guards are to be provided to the Agartala-Kolkata direct bus plying through Dhaka.

Shyamoli Paribahan runs buses for the West Bengal and Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation on the Kolkata-Dhaka-Agartala routes.

But the TRTC decided to run its own bus on the Agartala-Kolkata route and the state government purchased a new Volvo bus for this purpose .

Bhowmik said the bus was to begin service on Oct 16. "But now it may be delayed by a day or two because we want to check out all arrangements including security."
