The insurgent outfit, which was in ceasefire with the government since 2001, had abrogated the truce agreement earlier this year to renew its hostility towards security forces.

The army in a press release said the cadres were killed in an exchange of fire that ensued when security forces during a routine patrol along Indo-Myanmar border signalled a motorcycle to stop for checking around 1.30pmon Friday.

But occupants of a Gypsy and a Bolero vehicles, which were trailing the motorcycle, opened fire at the security forces, the release said.

In the retaliatory fire from the security forces, the seven cadres were killed.

Three “over ground workers (OGWs) and one soldier of the security force were injured in the firing, the release said.

A large cache of arms and ammunition were found on the slain militants.
