National Mourning in Kolkata mission

The national flag was lowered to fly half mast at the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission on Saturday , as officials observed the day of national mourning.

Deputy High Commissioner Joky Ahad explained the significance of the black day to all those gathered at the mission early Saturday.
 
Messages by President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina , Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam were read out before Ahad's speech.
 
Bangladesh diplomats were joined by many important local citizens of Kolkata in placing floral wreaths at the 'Bangabandhu Chamber' in the Baker Hostel of Islamia College (now Maulana Azad College).
 
Bangabandhu spend much time in Kolkata as a student in that hostel and the state government decided to turn the hostel room where he stayed into 'Bangabandhu Chamber', a few years ago.
 
The Deputy High Commission has organised a symposium on the life and times of Bangabandhu on Monday at the Jadavpur University.
 
Many top local citizens who played vital role during the 1971 Liberation War will deliver speeches on that day.
