Two NLFT militants surrender in Tripura

Two militants of the banned National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) have surrendered before police after decamping from Bangladesh.

"The militants of the Biswamohand Debbarma faction deposited one AK-series rifle , one magazine with 16 rounds of ammunition and two Chinese grenades to DGP, Tripura K Nagaraj at police headquarters in Agartala," said Superintendent of Police (Ops) Uttam Bhaumick.

The surrender NLFT extremists have been identified as Sunil Mohan Tripura (35), self-styled warrant officer and Jatanjoy Tripura.

The militants fled from their base camp at Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) in Bangladesh and entered Indian territory through Khanthlang, a hill top hamlet near the Indo-Bangla international border about 230 km from Agartala.

The militants were intending to surrender over a long period of time to join the mainstream.

They approached Arindam Nath, Superintendent of Police (SP) Special Branch (SB) and Manik Dutta, SI (SB) who had facilitated their surrender.

During interrogation Sunil told police that he was a resident of Kukil Mani Para under Dhumacherra police station of Dhalai district and joined NLFT in the year 2000.

Jatanjoy a self-styled sepoy is a resident of Gobindabari under Chawmanu PS of the same district and joined NLFT in the year 2008.
