Bangladesh-India book fair will be held in Dhaka in June

A Bangladesh-India book fair will be held at Dhaka’s Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in June.

The cultural affairs ministry formed a 10-strong committee on Tuesday with Bangla Academy Director General Shamsuzzaman Khan as its convenor to organise the event.
 
National Book Centre Director Asim Kumar Dey has been made the committee member secretary and Professor Emeritus Anisuzzaman the advisor.
 
A meeting, held with Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor in the chair, was told that a large number of publishers of Bangladesh and India would take part in it.
 
Noor hoped the fair would expand the areas of cultural exchanges between the two next-door neighbours.
 
“India is Bangladesh’s real and tested friend. The two countries are working with each other very sincerely in different fields including trade and commerce, education and cultural affairs,” he said.
 
The minister said divisional book fairs had already been held in Rangpur, Barisal and Comilla, while the Khulna divisional fair would begin in Jessore onApr 25.
 
He said book fairs would be organised in other divisional cities and important district towns later.
 
Cultural Affairs Secretary Ranjit Kumar Biswas, Bangla Academy DG Khan, Department of Public Library Director General Md Hafizur Rahman and National Book Centre Director Asim Saha were present at the meeting.
