The exposé by a leading news portal of the state, tripurainfoway.com, has forced the administration of the state’s Gomoti district to order an inquiry.

According to the website, the passport (No M5692461) was issued in the name of one Mustak Miah, son of Late Riku Miah.

Tripura Civil Service officer Sabyasanchi Sinha was asked to conduct the inquiry on Thursday, tripurainfoway.com quoting a government source said.

“The Bangladeshi youth was trying to go to Kuwait/Syria/Iraq for an unknown mission and for this, he was trying to get an Indian passport.

“And thus he came in touch with the gang, active in Gomati District Magistrate’s office and involved in making forged passport,” the report claimed.

The forgery came to light when the passport, issued by the Regional Passport Office, Kolkata, was delivered accidentally to ‘original’ Mustak Miah.

A stunned Mustak, who never applied for any passport, brought the matter into the notice of Gomati District Magistrate’s Office.

The photo affixed on the passport was also not of Mustak. Later it was learnt that the photo was that of other Mustak, whose entire family had shifted to Bangladesh some five years ago.

It so happened that ‘original’ Mustak gave copies of his valid documents like Ration Cards, Voter ID to one Nabikul Islam for getting a PRTC Certificate.

“With those documents Nabikul & Co made a forged Voter ID, forged State Bank Account and a forged Ration Card in the name of another Mustak Miah (the Bangladeshi),” tripurainfoway.com added.

With those fake documents, the passport was applied for in the name of the Bangladeshi youth.

According to the website’s investigation, Nabikul Islam is the kingpin of the ‘forgery racket’ while one Sagar Sutradhar is his accomplice.

A section of officials were also reportedly involved in this forgery racket.

The forged passport was sent to the authorities of Regional Passport Office, Kolkata on Thursday.
