Ali Hossain Ripon acquired the fatal disease while he was deployed to cover a food crisis story at a highly malaria prone area in Bandarban’s Thanchi.

He died at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University’s intensive care unit on Thursday 12am.

According to the TV, he will be laid to rest at his home town Keraniganj.

Media reported acute food shortage at Thanchi in the last week of May. The place is so remote that the government had to send relief by helicopter.

Bandarban is one of the three highly malaria endemic hilly districts of Bangladesh.
