Daily Observer’s Special Correspondent Shahnaj Begum, who is related to him, said Faruk died at Square Hospital on Sunday morning.

The 53-year old journalist was run over by a truck while crossing a road at Dhaka’s Kakrail on Saturday evening.

He was first rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Faruk’s family later moved him to Square Hospital.

Ramna Police Station Sub-Inspector ‘Samsuddin’ told bdnews24.com that police were unable to track down and impound the killer truck.

Faruk hails from Bishalikha village at Berha Upazila in Pabna. He has left behind his wife, a son and a daughter.

Before joining 'Kaler Kantho' in 2009, Faruk had worked in Samakal as the chief reporter, and in Jugantor and Sangbad as the political and parliament affairs correspondent.

He was supposed to join a new newspaper named ‘Khola Kagaj’ from Jan 1, said former president of Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) Shahed Chowdhury.

Chowdhury said Faruk’s body will be taken later in the day from his Mohammad residence to DRU and then to National Press Club for the colleagues to pay their last respects.

Faruk was members of both organisations of the journalists.

His family members said Faruk will be buried at Azimpur Graveyard after a Namaj-e-Janaza at the Press Club in the afternoon.

Journalists’ organisations BFUJ, DUJ, DRU and the Press Club have mourned his death in separate statements.
