Devorise Dixon, 25, from California shared pictures and a video of what he claimed was a deep-fried rat that appeared to be coated with KFC breading.
The images showed seemingly the shape of a rat.
Dixon in his Facebook profile wrote that he had spoken to the KFC outlet manager.
He said the manager had admitted to serving Dixon a rat and apologised – a claim the global fast-food chain refuted.
Founded over 70 years ago, Louisville-based KFC has 18,000 outlets in 115 countries and territories around the world, according to its website.
Dixon has become quite popular on Facebook overnight since he shared the ‘rat’ picture on June 11.
Over 4,200 people befriended him on Facebook while his pictures have been shared over 135,000 times.
In a post, he gave his version of the story advising the people to avoid eating fast food.
He went on that he had gone to a local outlet in Compton and bought a three-piece chicken tender.
“As I bit into it I noticed that it was very hard and rubbery which made me look at it,” he wrote. “As I looked down at it I noticed that it was in a shape of a rat with a tail.”
But the KFC accused Dixon of trying to “deceive the public”.
KFC claimed it tried to contact Dixon but he did not respond. It added that there was no evidence to support Dixon’s allegation.
KFC said the man had refused to turn over the alleged rat.
A close look at the pictures Dixon shared makes the situation look suspicious.
Also, the lack of bones is noticeable, which he would have bitten into, if he had taken a bite as he claimed, it adds.
