Celebrated artists of both nations painted those portraits of political leaders, common poets, mystic minstrels, classical musicians and pre-eminent painters.

This has drawn media attention in Dhaka.

Rabindranath Tagore’s portrait was the last painting of Bangladeshi painter Qayyum Chowdhury who died recently, said a spokesperson of the centre.

He also painted Bangladesh’s founding father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s portrait.

Artist Kamal Uddin painted the portrait of poet Michael Madhusudan Dutt, Indian leader Indira Gandhi, and poet Jibanananda Das.

Ranjit Das painted the portrait of philosopher Swami Vivekananda, social reformer Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar and anti-British revolutionary Deshbandhu Chittaranjan Das.

Samarjit Roy Chowdhury drew the portrait of mystic poet Lalon Shah while Jamal Ahmed painted poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, Ustad Alauddin Khan and Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin for the calendar.
