Fish & Co. ready to make waves in Dhaka

Bengalis are known to be great fish ‘addicts’ for ages. But, despite this love for fish we haven’t been too keen on sea food, which is a mystery! It’d be quite an overstatement to say that Dhaka’s exciting restaurant scene boasts many great seafood eateries.

But that’s about to change now that a well-known Singaporean seafood restaurant has opened a branch in town.

Once inside Fish & Co., the ambience will remind you of a sea vessel. It has a few ship wheels on the walls with fish skeletons to go along. Cutleries served in small bucket and the coasters are shaped as fish skeleton. Foods are also served in a pan.

Blue mussels in garlic lemon butter sauce

Waiters are well dressed and a few smiles and nods liven things up. The ‘overwhelming’ fishy smell would hit the nostrils once the doors behind the counter, connected to the kitchen, is opened.

The mocktails menu is a pleasant surprise for the eyes. Mojito, pink passion, candy crush or chocolate ecstasy are as exotic looking as they are named!

For starters, fried calamari can be a great choice, as the rings are crunchy outside and amazingly soft inside. Many foodies in Dhaka have long been complaining about fried calamari being not soft enough inside.

If this newest seafood joint in town can deliver the same quality on a daily basis, then this complaint might become history!

Fried calamari

The tartare sauce on the side is perhaps the biggest surprise of all. It’s not only delicious but addictive almost. This sauce is as good as you will get in the European households, albeit this one has an added sweetness to tangy taste.

Tamal Nandi of the restaurant revealed a great ‘secret’ by presenting a chili dip. Once those fried calamari rings are mixed with tartare sauce and that chili dip things simply get heavenly!

The starter menu also includes a few green salads, soup of the day, prawn fritters and so on.

Those who have a slightly adventurous taste bud can surely go for the blue mussels in ‘garlic lemon butter’ sauce. It simply is a sheer delight for the tongue!

Bangla fish and chips

Mussels meat complimented by a spoon of the sauce might ring a symphony to your ears! On the side are four small slices of baguette. The portion looks good enough for two.

Fish & Co. has a few varieties of 'Fish and Chips'. Most interesting one would be the 'Bangla' version of it. 'Bangla Fish and Chips' is sprinkled with local spice and served with lemon butter sauce on the side.

The chips are as good as it gets – long cut, crispy, golden in colour and taste real ‘easy good’. The chips also do not get soggy after a long time. This costs Tk 685.

More varieties are New York, Singapore, Swiss style, but surprisingly London style, is not in the menu!!

A few dishes are mixed with chicken, rice and so on. Also on offer are seafood pizzas. Chili crab would be utterly tasty but you will have to carry a fat wallet for the dish, as it will cost Tk 1,720.

Then you have grilled peri-peri prawns that will set you back Tk 800. There are a few platters to share on the menu. One of best includes Grilled prawn, white fish, grilled calamari, blue mussels, paella and chip. You need to shell out Tk 2,295 for all these.
