BSMMU, icddr,b tie up with British Medical Journal for clinical research

The medical university, BSMMU, and the research centre, icddr,b, have tied up with the British Medical Journal or BMJ for strengthening clinical research in Bangladesh.

The memorandum of understanding was signed on Tuesday at the BSMMU in Dhaka in order to form an institutional platform and collaborate research initiative of clinical science across various health disciplines, including non-communicable diseases.

This collaboration will stress on reducing knowledge gap and strengthening capacities for conducting scientific research by the clinicians of the national institutions of the country, said a statement.

This collaboration aims to help create next generation researchers to tackle unforeseen public health challenges of the next century.

Specific scopes of the agreement include providing facilities and sharing of knowledge and experience, helping conduct clinical research training, organising workshops and scientific seminars, helping prepare research protocols, and conducting scientific research.

It also covers help to write research grant and raise research funding, and finally help to publish and circulate papers, periodicals, books, publications and other literary works.

BSMMU Vice Chancellor Prof Kamrul Hassan Khan, ICDDR,B Executive Director Prof John Clemens, and BMJ’s Managing Director-India & South Asia Prashant Mishra signed the agreement.
