Dr Subrato Ghosh, editor of a monthly Chikitshak Barta (Voice of the Doctor), at a rally on Thursday also urged associations of doctors to observe the day celebrating their own work.
The publication in cooperation with the Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital organised the rally in front of the hospital marking the day which is being observed in many countries, including the US, as National Doctors’ Day.
The date was the anniversary of the first use of general anesthesia in surgery in 1842.
Suhrawardhy Medical College Hospital Director Prof Uttam Kumar Barua, vice-principal Dr Shahadat Hossain Ripon, head of the gynaecology department Prof Fatema Ashraf and professor of medicine AHM Firoz spoke at the rally.
They lamented that doctor’s work round the clock sacrificing their personal life and sometimes taking risk, still the government does not recognise their contribution to society.
They also demanded safe working place for doctors across Bangladesh.
