‘Psychological first aid’, which was the theme of this year’s mental health day, personality test or ego- gram, non-violent communication, anger management, depression, stress management, exam phobia, time management, anxiety and hopelessness were some of the issues discussed at the daylong event.

Focusing on the World Mental Health Day , the Department of Educational and Counselling Psychology (DECP) of Dhaka University is carrying out a month-long programme on raising awareness of mental health issues, an area generally neglected in the country.

Tuesday’s event, the DECP said, at one of the foremost girls’ educational institutions of the country, was organised in association with the Bangladesh Educational and Counseling Psychology Society.

Principal Sufia Khatun inaugurated the programme, while DECP Lecturer Umme Kawser officiated as coordinator.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday at the university campus Prof Mehtab Khanam will provide ‘couple therapy’ to those who are in a ‘committed relationship’, while Mahjabeen Haque, an associate professor of the department, will impart training to parents on how to ‘discipline’ children.
