The baby, Mohammad Ali, was born on Mar 7 in Bagherhat district with a partially formed twin sticking to his tiny body.

Chairman of paediatric surgery Prof Md Ruhul Amin led an 18-member medical board for Monday’s surgery.

Prof Amin said the operation had been successful.

“The baby is out of danger. He has been kept under post-operative observation,” he told journalists.

Parasitic twins are usually the result of a delay in the separation of embryos during conception.

The attached twin’s upper part, head, chest and arms, were missing but he had two legs, kidneys, a bladder and a penis.

The university, which has a history of separating rare twins, undertook the responsibility of the baby’s treatment.
