An estimated 7 million people suffer from diabetes in Bangladesh, according to the International Diabetes Federation. The latest demographic and health survey in Bangladesh indicated that many people do not even know that they have it.

Novo Nordisk says it is providing first aid and diabetes screening to visitors at the fair, and that about 1,500 people get screened free of charge every day.

They are also distributing brochures and pamphlets to educate visitors on diabetes prevention and control, and on its complications.

“We are giving this service to visitors because of our commitment to society and to people living with diabetes,” the Managing Director of Novo Nordisk in Bangladesh, A Rajan Kumar, was quoted as saying.

They screened about 30,000 visitors at the month-long fair last year.
