The 12th International Congress on AIDS in Asia and the Pacific (ICAAP12) was scheduled to be held in Dhaka from Nov 20 to Nov 22.

The executive committee has regretted the postponement and in a statement said fresh dates would be announced later.

Officials related to the conference told bdnews24.com the number of participants was declining due to security concerns after the murder of foreigners.

ICAAP is the largest regional forum in the world and second largest global AIDS meet since 1995.

It draws between 3,000 and 5,000 participants from across the world, mostly from Asia and the Pacific region.

The Dhaka meet would have been the first global AIDS conference after the adoption of the post-2015 development agenda.

The conference also raised hopes that people living with HIV/AIDS in Bangladesh would finally be freed from social stigma.
