Bangladesh’s only medical university currently offers limited emergency services.

Prof Hassan said on Monday at a press briefing now they would launch a separate department with full-fledged emergency services.

The media call was organised on the programmes taken to observe the National Mourning Day on Aug 15.

A group of rogue army officials killed Bangladesh’s founding father Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, along with most of his family members, on that day in 1975 in a military coup.

To commemorate the 40th death anniversary, the university has taken up 40-day programme.

The VC said “service first” would be the theme of their programme that began on Aug 1 and would end on Sep 9.

“Today, we are informing you officially,” he said.

He said on every evening from Aug 1, they were lighting 40 candles before Bangabandhu’s mural on the ground floor of the university’s administrative building.

Discussions, free medical camps, and blood donation camps would be the highlights of the observance.

Specialist doctors will see patients free of cost at the outdoor department on Aug 15.
