ICU, CCU at district hospitals soon

Government hospitals in districts will soon have Intensive care units (ICU) and Coronary Care Units (CCU) with the setting-up process beginning this current month.

Health Minister Mohammad Nasim said the work will begin in six districts including Barisal on Nov 29.
There are 18,868 government hospitals and clinics across the country, he told Parliament on Sunday.
Among them are medical college hospitals, specialised hospitals, district hospitals, Upazila hospitals, health centres and community clinics.
Health services are also provided from 3,990 private hospitals, clinics, and 8,459 diagnostic centres, said the minister.
He also spoke of a government decision to provide free ambulance services for pregnant women and bear the ambulance charges.
In 2013, there were 7,142 reported deaths of breast-cancer patients and 6,582 deaths from uterine cancer.
