The Indian High Commission, which is bringing him, says he will interact with the local professionals on the advances in infertility and reproductive healthcare management in a workshop on Sunday.

It invited relevant professionals to attend the workshop at Pan Pacific Sonargoan Hotel from 10am to 12.30pm. Entry is free.

Infertility is a growing problem in Bangladesh as elsewhere in the world.

A four-year old study found about 15 percent couples were infertile in Bangladesh, but there is lack of medicare for them.

“Those (medical services) available are mostly in the private sector,” said Associate Professor of Gynaecology at Chittagong Medical College Dr Md Mahbub Alam.

“We (professionals) also lack training in this field,” he told bdnews24.com.

“It requires dedicated doctors. But here (Bangladesh) gynaecologists receive training on their own initiatives.”

Dr Khastgir, who is also a gynaecologist, will mainly speak on infertility and reproductive health management.

He is the Medical Director of BIRTH – Bengal Infertility and Reproductive Therapy Hospital – in Kolkata.

A gold medallist in MBBS, Dr Khastgir has authored several books on infertility and reproductive healthcare.
