Health and Family Planning Minister Mohammad Nasim told reporters at Secretariat on Wednesday that the ministry already issued an order to hospitals across the country to offer the free ambulance services.

“There are many poor people in our country who meet with premature deaths while giving birth to babies with the help of unskilled midwifes since they cannot afford ambulance fare.
“So the government has decided to offer ambulance services for free,” he said.
The minister said relatives of expecting women could contact hospitals for the service.
He warned stern actions against refusal to offer free ambulance services to the pregnant.
Nasim said intensive care units (ICU) and coronary care units (CCU) would be set up in 20 district-level general hospitals in Bangladesh in the current financial year.
