More storms, rains are likely in next 2 weeks

Several spells of rain with gusty wind and hailstorm are predicted to happen at different places across Bangladesh, including capital Dhaka, in the next two weeks, the Met office says.

Meteorologists said the rains and storms at the onset of spring ‘are normal’.

Meteorological Department Forecast Officer Abul Kalam Mallick said: “Now winter is coming to an end. Gusty wind and rains are likely at this time of the year, even nor’westers are possible. We may have gusty winds in the early hours and towards the evening.”

He said temperatures would rise from now on.

According to Met office forecast, rains with gusty wind and hailstorms might take place in one or two places in Dhaka, Sylhet and Chittagong divisions and in several places in Khulna, Barisal and Rajshahi divisions on Friday.

Different places of the country have experienced rains with gusty winds since Wednesday night.

Met office said the highest rainfall in the country -- 51 millimetres -- was recorded in Jessore within 24 hours until Thursday noon.

Dhaka got 2 mm, Sylhet 18 mm, Bogra 37 mm, Ishwardi 8 mm, Rajshahi 1mm, Khulna 29 mm, Dinajpur 2 mm, Satkhira 3 mm and Barisal 1 mm of rain during the period.
