The singer, renowned for film songs like 'Salam Salam' and 'Ore Nil Doriya', has been undergoing treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University in Dhaka for around four months.

His condition has started to deteriorate since Saturday afternoon, doctors said.

BSMMU Professor Debabrata Banik said, "there is one organ failure after another in his body."

The singer's son Babu Jabbar told bdnews24.com: "My father's condition is very bad. He has stopped eating."

His relatives have started to gather in the hospital.

Earlier in August, doctors said the singer suffered a major kidney failure.

Jabbar's patriotic songs inspired Bengalis during the Liberation War.

His scores like 'Joy Bangla, Banglar Joy' and 'Tumi Ki Dekhechho Kobhu' still reverberate at peoples' soul but he made the whole country emotional when, at the early stage of his illness, said that "he wants to live on this beautiful earth for a few more years."

The Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra artiste has received the highest civilian award, Swadhinata Padak and Ekushey Padak, among other national and international awards.
