Planning Commission proposing a Tk 1.53 trillion ADP for NEC approval

The Planning Commission is going to propose a 39 percent rise in the Annual Development Programme for the 2017-18 financial year.

If the proposal is approved by the National Economic Council (NEC), the size of the ADP for the next fiscal will cross Tk 1.53 trillion.

The commission will submit its proposal on the ADP at a meeting of the NEC to be chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday.

The ADP of the current fiscal year is over Tk 1.1 trillion.

According to the summary of the Planning Commission ADP proposal, the government will supply Tk 963.31 billion, or 63 percent of the ADP. The rest is targeted to achieve from foreign sources.

The Planning Commission also set a target to spend Tk 107.53 billion more in projects of the autonomous organisations and corporations of the government.

With this amount, the total ADP will cross Tk 1.64 trillion.

Planning Secretary Ziaul Islam said the size of the ADP proposed by the Commission is not final.

In the proposed ADP, the highest allocation, Tk 410.53 billion or 27 percent, is for the transport sector. The projects in this sector include the Padma Bridge, Metro rail and tunnel under the Karnaphuli river in Chittagong.

The power sector will get Tk 188.59 billion or 12.3 percent, the second highest allocation proposed in the ADP. The projects in this sector include Rooppur nuclear power plant.

The education sector will get Tk 166.73 billion, infrastructure planning, water supply, and housing Tk 149.5 billion, and science and ICT Tk 144.5 billion.
