A letter from the Prime Minister's Office alerted the apex bank of a possible move by Bahauddin, son of anti-liberation personality Maulana Abdul Mannan.

Addressed to the Banking and Financial Institutions Division of Bangladesh Bank, the letter called for monitoring efforts by Bahauddin to move money gained from sale of property out of the country.

The letter said the Prime Minister's Office has received reports that Bahauddin was trying to move money in foreign currency without securing the mandatory prior clearance of the Bangladesh Bank.

It said that Bahauddin had secured the funds after selling his own property and some ancestral property belonging to his father as well.

The Bangladesh Bank department dealing in foreign currency has been alerted, bank officials said.
