Tk 2 billion collected on first day of Income Tax Fair

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has collected Tk 2 billion on the first day of Income Tax Fair, which is an increase by 25 percent from the last year.

Some 16,086 returns were submitted on the first day of the fair on Tuesday.

A Mu'men, senior information officer of NBR, says the amount is 7.25 percent higher than the returns submitted on the first day of last year's fair.

According to him, nearly 60,000 visitors were served with returns and other tax related information on the day. 

As many as 4,875 people received E-TIN (electronic tax identification number). The number has risen by 80.22 percent compared to the first day of the last year.
The fair is being held simultaneously in the capital, divisional headquarters, districts and Upazilas.
Inaugurating the fair at NBR Building in Agargaon, Finance Minister AMA Muhith expressed satisfaction over the rising number of taxpayers.  
"Today, standing at this programme, I think the goal of organising this fair has been achieved. The number of new taxpayers is rising," he said.
According to him, the number of TIN holders rose from 1.8 million on June 30 to 2.1 million on Oct 15.
As the day progressed the number of began to rise in the fair. The taxpayers crowded the booths for separate tax zones from 10am. Many were seen submitting taxes after filling up the return form.
NBR Chairman Nojibur Rahman expressed hope that the number of taxpayers attending the fair will rise in the next days of the seven-day fair.
