President Md Abdul Hamid was informed about the convention in a meeting on Monday with Abdul Matlub Ahmad, the chief of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI).
The 17 foreigners killed during the terror attack on July 1 included seven Japanese, who were working at the Metrorail project, and nine Italians, most of whom were buyers of Bangladesh’s garments.
People related to Bangladesh’s top export industry, the readymade garments, have expressed concerns over the attack’s impact on the sector after some foreign buyers postponed tour.
The president’s Press Secretary Md Joynal Abedin briefed reporters on the meeting held at the Bangabhaban.
“Businessmen, like general people, want a Bangladesh free from terrorism and militancy,” he quoted the FBCCI chief as saying in the meeting.
Matlub said representatives of all chambers in Bangladesh will take part in the convention to be organised in Dhaka ‘very soon’.
He briefed President Hamid about FBCCI’s activities to develop Bangladesh’s commerce.
The president said the private sector was an effective player in the social and economic development and urged the business leaders to create more jobs.
Leaders of the Kishoreganj Chamber of Commerce and Industry went with the FBCCI chief in the meeting.
President Hamid urged the FBCCI chief to set up factories in his home district, Kishoreganj.
The FBCCI chief presented an ambulance to President Abdul Hamid Medical College in Kishoreganj during the meeting.
The president thanked the FBCCI chief for the gift.
