He said an agreement was signed with Japan based Tokyo Construction Company in March this year for the implementation of the project.

The Uttara to Motijheel metro rail route will have 16 stations.

Upon completion, the facility will enable 60 thousand commuters to ply to and fro along the route in an hour.

The minister revealed this to the media after the inspection of a metro rail depot in Uttara on Friday.

Japan's development agency, JICA is providing Tk 160 billion for the Metro Rail-6 project.

“Commercial operation on the route is expected to begin by 2019,” the minister hoped.
