Inflation in Bangladesh drops to 5.61% in April
The general point-to-point inflation rate in Bangladesh was 5.61 percent in April, a slight fall from March’s 5.65 percent.

Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal has attributed the drop to the fall in the prices of food products, including rice.
He made the observation while releasing the monthly inflation update of the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) at the end of National Economic Council’s (NEC) meeting on Tuesday.
In April, food inflation fell to 3.84 percent against 3.89 percent in March.
Non-food inflation also dropped to 8.34 percent last month from March’s 8.36 percent.
The minister said overall inflation in rural areas declined to 4.75 percent in April. It was 4.79 percent in March.
Overall inflation in urban areas on a point-to-point basis declined to 7.22 percent in April from the previous month’s 7.27 percent.
Kamal said the decrease in inflation rate also led to the increase in wage rates. On a point-to-point basis, the wage rate went up to 6.13 percent in April from 5.93 percent in March.
