He made the call at a discussion at Dhaka’s Bangabandhu International Conference Center on Sunday.

Kamal pointed out that compared with the corporate sector, the amount of taxes collected from the livestock sector is trivial.

But the nutrition provided by the sector is a key component for Bangladesh to reach Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

So, the government should consider removing taxes from the sector, he noted.

Several leaders of business bodies related to the sector were also present at the discussion co-organised by the business daily Bonikbarta, ACI Limited.

The minister told the business bodies that the small to large business ventures should band together to urge the government for necessary facilities.

Speaking of the $ 700 billion international halal food market which Indonesia and Malaysia currently dominate, Kamal said, “If we can occupy even a fraction of this market, this (the livestock) sector will have a massive expansion.”
