Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal published the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) inflation report at a press conference in Dhaka on Tuesday.

According to BBS, point-to-point inflation dropped to 6.07 percent in January from 6.1 percent in December.

The minister said, “The rate would have dropped further had the house rent not gone up in January.”

Inflation has been declining since the beginning of the current financial year in July, when the rate was 6.36 percent, he said.

Kamal hopes average inflation will remain within 6.2 percent in FY 2015-16.

According to the BBS report, food inflation was 4.33 percent in January against 5.48 percent a month before.

But, non-food inflation rose to 8.74 percent in January from 7.05 percent in December.
