NBR to launch income tax returns filing online from July

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) is preparing to have income tax returns and statement filed online from July.

The programme ‘Distribution and installation of computers and devices’ at the NBR’s 649 offices was inaugurated by State Minister for Finance MA Mannan on Tuesday.

The computers were given out as part of the ‘Strengthening Governance Management Project’.

“We’ve started this project to digitalise the entire NBR,” said Project Director Kalipad Haldar, who was at the programme.

“Our goal is to make the tax division automated and paperless.”

He said the plan was to start the pilot project from March and complete it before June.

"The taxpayers will be able to pay taxes, submit returns and get receipts online through 'e-payment' from July," Haldar said.

Vietnamese IT firm FPT Information System Corporation is implementing the project.

The state minister for finance said Bangladesh will take a step forward the 'digitalisation' of taxpaying.

NBR Chairman Md Nojibur Rahman said they organised programme on 'digital customs' on Jan 26, 'digital VAT' on Monday and 'digital tax' on Tuesday as part of the board's 'digitalisation' following Parliament's guidelines.
