Initially, after analysing financial data of the July-March period, the bureau had said the growth was 6.51 percent.

Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal revealed the latest BBS data on Tuesday.

The political unrest in the first few months of the previous fiscal year could not affect the economy much, he said.

"Production did not stop for a single day. So the unrest could not hamper growth," he said.

The government had set a 7.2 percent growth target for 2014-15 fiscal, but later revised the target down to 6.5 percent following the political unrest.

The target is 7 percent for current 2015-16 fiscal year.

The size of GDP (gross domestic product) in constant prices stood at Tk 8.25 trillion after the end of the 2014-15 financial year, Kamal said.

In 2013-14, Bangladesh's GDP grew by 6.06 percent to Tk 7.74 trillion in constant prices.

The growth was 6.01 percent in 2012-13 and 6.52 percent in 2011-12.
