PM Hasina pledges more development projects for Chittagong

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has pledged more development projects for Chittagong after inaugurating Kadamtali Flyover, Bangabandhu Avenue and laying foundation stone of an elevated expressway.

She has also promised to return soon to Chittagong to address a mass rally.
 
The prime minister launched two other projects in the city on Saturday.
 
She urged the leaders and activists of Awami League to strengthen the party.
 
"I will come again and organise a mass rally here," she said at the programme on the occasion of launching of the projects at Bangabandhu Avenue.
 
Public Works Minister Mosharraf Hossain said the leaders of the party’s Chittagong unit would fix the date for the rally. "It will be within Mar 15."
 
In her speech, the prime minister termed Chittagong the commercial capital of Bangladesh.
 
"We've been working for Chittagong's development," she said.
 
She said the government was working to save the Karnaphuli River. "Discussions are on for dredging and filtering the water."
 

She said the work to set up a tunnel under the river would start soon.
The prime minister said four-lane highway from Dhaka to Chittagong was nearing completion.
After the launching of the projects, she inaugurated the World Trade Centre in the city.
Chittagong City Awami League President ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury was present at the programme.
"Mr Mohiuddin wanted a tunnel. Now we are building it," Hasina said.
