In a media release on Tuesday, it said the field level officials were instructed to act against the people who even did not file any application to extend the time for submission of their returns.

The extended deadline for submission of income tax returns ended on Monday.

NBR Chairman Nazibur Rahman told bdnews24.com “no one will be spared”.

The time to submit tax returns was extended by two months this year.

According to the Income Tax Ordinance, those who do not submit their income tax returns within the fixed date will be fined either 10 percent of their latest income tax or Tk 1,000, whichever is greater in amount.

In addition, they will be fined Tk 50 per day.

The NBR said in the media release that 815,894 taxpayers had submitted returns by Monday.

The board collected over Tk 15.37 billion from them.

It said 276,138 taxpayers sought more time to submit the returns.
