The tax offices will remain open until 10pm on Monday for those who are yet to submit the returns.

NBR’s Senior Public Relations Officer Syed A Mumen told bdnews24.com on Sunday night that the deadline for individuals to submit the returns was ending on Monday.

All the tax offices will remain open until 10pm on the day, giving the taxpayers the scope to submit their return.

Asked if it meant the time to submit returns is not getting another extension, Mumen said, “The order to keep the offices open until 10pm would not have been issued if the time had been extended.”

In line with the Income-Tax Ordinance, citizens can submit their annual income tax statement from July 1 to Sep 30. The time is extended every year.

On Sep 30 this year, the time was extended by two months considering Eid-ul-Azha, Hajj and Durga Puja.

The government has set a revenue target of over Tk 1.763 trillion, including Tk 649.71 billion in income tax.

In the income tax fair from Sep 16 to 23, over 160,000 people submitted tax returns.

The NBR collected over Tk 20 billion of income tax at the fair this year. The amount is 21 percent more than last year’s.
